Re discovered Van Gogh goes on display

A brightly coloured painting with people wandering about outside a mill in Paris is not perhaps what you would imagine from a Van Gogh painting.

But according to experts at Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum the painting of a windmill has now been identified as the work of Van Gogh. According to them, the painting was completed in 1886.

It was bought 35 years ago by Dirk Hannema who founded the Museum de Fundatie where the painting has now gone on display. At the time, he believed it was a Van Gogh, but was discredited.

It is only now that he has been proved right.

An unusual case of bird song

Artists are constantly trying to break the boundaries in a constant attempt to be the new trend setter. And sometimes the results can be a little embarrassing let alone pretentious.

But French artist Celeste Boursier-Mougenot has managed to carefully balance the fine line between interesting and unique art and pretentious, pointless art.

Her latest ‘piece’ consists of 40 zebra finches jamming on electric guitars and symbols.

This extraordinary piece of work can be seen in The Curve art space at the Barbican in London. The guitars act as perches for the birds while the cymbals are bird feeders.

As the birds fly and land on the instruments and walk about or peck on them, a unique sound is created.
Well, it’s certainly different.

This month the Tate Gallery has been welcomed with Polands Miroslaw Balka’s Heart of Darkness.

The sculpture is over 13 metres high and 10 metres wide. It is a giant darkness filled box shape which can be entered via a ramp or can be walked underneath.

The piece was placed on show on the 13th October, but don’t worry it will be left alone till April 2010 when it will be replaced with the next artwork.

Balka’s other works include a set of corridors that visitors can also walk through and experience.

Enhance your digital artwork with software packages

One such method of enhancing an image comes from photoshop.

Open up an image and click image, top left. Now select in sequence “Auto Tone”, “Auto Colour” and “Auto Contrast”. This will automatically balance the colours, tones and contrast to usually give the picture a more “real” look.

Next, choose Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen. This will make the image crisper and comes out well if being presented on a monitor.

As you can see, there are a number of quick and easy ways to make your Digital Art look better with no hassle.

Shop Windows Become Mini Art Galleries

A new and exciting scheme has been started in the empty shops of Dunstable town centre were artists can come and display their art work.

The windows have been turned into mini art galleries and the local college students have featured their work in several shop windows.

The council and the college worked closely to make this a success and the plan is hopefully to look at other areas where they will be able to display more pieces of art work.

Hopefully all these colourful pieces of art will make the town more vibrant and more attractive to be people as well as prospective buyers while making it more pleasant for shoppers.

Art Display Dismantled

An art museum is Israel is currently one of the most shocking art exhibitions to date, what appeared to be a collection of the Madonna with child on the theme of pious have turned on a closer inspection to be the holy virgins just reincarnated in the female body of the Palestinian suicide bombers.

The effect was meant to be shocking but no one took it well in Israel so just before it was about to go live it was dismantled and removed.

You should not paint acts of terrorism as people of holy saints as you are saying that it is ok to kill innocent lives and the relatives of victims filed complaints with the police about the display.

Art Fraud Increases

Art insurers are looking at art claims so much closer at the moment as fears of fraudulent claims have shot up during the recession.

Experts have predicted that the number of false claims is still going to rise until the recession is over and the economy stables. In 2008 false claims rose by 17 per cent compared to that of the previous year which meant that around 2,000 claims were fraudulent making a total value of £730 million around 30 per cent up on the year 2007.

The only problem the insurers have is proving that they are false claims.
