A word on developing an artistic voice

Artistic inspiration is something that is hard to come by. Although in truth, it less something that you come by than something you develop and nurture.

It is no good waiting for an original idea to land in your mind. This may have worked for some of the art world’s more celebrated prodigies and enfants terribles, but most artists need to put a great deal of effort into studying a whole host of mediums, as well as the history of their chosen field.

Studying in this manner does not merely help talented individuals to reproduce the work of past masters – it also helps them to find their own voice and mode expression. By bringing influences and originally-developed visions into line with one another, an artist is able to render their ideas with much greater authority.
